We explore and work in the areas of architecture and design at different scales through strategies that are sensitive to the memories of the sites and to the environment. Our aim is to offer responses to the social and cultural changes in contemporary territories and cities through interventions whose primary goal is to enhance people’s lives.

Established in Tarragona in 2013, NUA arquitectures has diversified its activity in different fields and categories, focusing simultaneously on the project designs from the urban perspective to the design of details. The efforts and works carried out over the last years have brought it recognition as one of Spain’s rising young studios in the last three editions of the Arquia/próxima programme (2014, 2016 and 2018), including an honourable mention in the last edition.

In 2016, it was one of the seven studios chosen to represent Catalonia at the Venice International Biennale of Architecture, and the studio’s project designs have recently been recognised at the European Union Award for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, the FAD Awards (2018), the 14th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urban Design (2018) and the XI Alejandro de la Sota Biennial Awards (2019, 2017, 2015, 2013), including the extraordinary award of the past 20 years of its edition in the rehabilitation category (1997-2017).

NUA’s work has been published in different national and international media, and the studio has been invited to lecture at several conferences at several universities and institutions, such Barcelona’s Design Museum and the Santa Monica Arts Centre, the COAMadrid, the Barcelona School of ART (ETSAB-UPC), the International Archmarathon Convention in Milan and the College of Architecture of Texas A&M University, among others.

The studio has been part of the teaching team at the Reus School of Art and Design (EADR) and the Barcelona University School of Design and Engineering (ELISAVA) and is currently part of the Reus School of Architecture (EAR-URV). It has also served as an external judge at various critique sessions at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB-UPC), the International University of Catalonia’s (UIC) School of Architecture, the La Salle School of Architecture (URL) and the College of Architecture of Texas A&M University.
